In China's Zhengzhou, a massive pileup involved more than 200 cars.

According to rescue workers and the CCTV state broadcaster, one person was killed on Wednesday when more than 200 vehicles collided on a bridge in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou amid heavy fog.

On the Zhengxin Huanghe bridge, pictures and videos shared on social media showed cars and trucks piled on top of each other. In a picture taken from CCTV footage, one car was jack-knifed in the middle of a pile.

This is too terrifying. In one video, one person can be heard saying, “I don’t think we can get off the bridge, full of people here.”

State media reported that the fire department dispatched 11 fire trucks and 66 fire rescue personnel to assist the injured who were trapped in their vehicles.

One individual was killed during a monstrous accident including in excess of 200 vehicles in the focal Chinese city Zhengzhou on Wednesday, as per state media.

According to state-owned The Global Times, the pileup occurred on a bridge covered in thick morning fog, resulting in multiple vehicle collisions.

The lengthy, multi-lane bridge that crosses fields and the Yellow River is depicted in photographs as being littered with crammed vehicles. In the pileup, you can see cars, cargo trucks, lorries, and other vehicles.

Fog still blankets the air in videos taken from below. While sirens ring in the distance, one video shows a truck sliding forward and colliding with several smaller cars.

According to The Global Times, numerous drivers and passengers were confined to their vehicles. Fire rescuers and emergency responders, including personnel from the health and traffic departments, were sent to the scene.

One observer told The Worldwide Times the accident extended a few kilometers in length, and that dampness on the scaffold made the street especially elusive.

Reuters, citing the local meteorology agency, reported that visibility that morning was only 200 meters (approximately 656 feet) in some areas. Police had warned cars not to cross the bridge due to the fog several hours after the pileup.

On their official Weibo account, China’s equivalent of Twitter, traffic police wrote, “In the winter, the temperature is low and there is frequently heavy fog.” It urged motorists to accelerate, use their lights, and quickly leave dangerous areas.

Zhengzhou and Xinxiang are connected to one another by an overpass. During rescue efforts, the bridge was closed to traffic by police, but it reopened later that afternoon.
